What's New In Special Education?

Lisa Garduno, Senior Behavioral Assistant, was honored by Autism of Imperial County on December 3, 2002 as their "Angel of the Year." She has been tireless in her efforts to help families and others who work with autistic children deal with the challenging behaviors posed by autism.

Transition Family Night
Elizabeth Willingham, Special Educator, coordinated the first Family Night at Regional Center for 57 individuals. Also in attendance were Community Catalysts of CA, Dept. of Rehabilitation, Easter Seals, Greater Southeast Apartment Training, and Regional Center.

Video Conferencing Project
Special Education was awarded 3 PolyCom ViaVideo Units to participate in Learning Technologies' Borderlink Innovative Use Project.  Three classes will be going on "virtual fieldtrips" by videoconferencing with zoos in other states. Details about individual projects will be posted in June.


Student Accountability Report Card for 2001-2002
Students Participate in CAPA!
From May 1st through May 14th, students enrolled in grades 2 through 11 (or between the ages of 7 and 16 as of 12-2-02) will take the assessment. Veronica Cunningham, poet and artist (pictured right), cheers on siblings at the 12th Annual ICOE Sibling Inservice held on April 2nd. She engaged 99 participants in a day of poetry, self-expression and art.
